3/15/2017 0 Comments Can They Be Trusted?A musician's dream is to get a record deal to a huge company such as Warner Music Group, Atlantic Records, or Shady Records. With a record deal, it is so much easier to record, distribute, and advertise your music. They have the connections for you to go on tour and have little concerts if you are just starting out and find artists for a feature or to be featured in. All this is great and looking at an artist from our point of view it seems like they are living the life. A lot of money and always traveling but there is a whole another side that most people don't know. There is a Music Documentary based on the independent band called 30 Seconds to Mars. The documentary, called Artifact, tells you all the reason why the band 30 Seconds to Mars won't sign to a record label and it shows them debating if they should sign a deal or not with any label. I highly recommend the documentary by the way. Once an artist or a band is signed to a label with a contract, the only real way to make money for them is to do shows. The record label gives you certain amount of money to use for an album. Then, the artist has to pay the label back the recording, distribution, and mixing fees. Then, they also take out money for finding shows and the tour which leaves the artist in debt. So many artists actually go bankrupt or lose a lot of money because or a record label. So can they be trusted? Well, a lot of the big companies are like this but that doesn't go for every label. So be sure to read every single word before signing anything.
